A Special Note on Self-Published Titles:
With the self-publishing industry churning out titles at an all time high, libraries are receiving more and more requests for items from these publishers. Sometimes these items are in limited supply or non-existent for lending by other libraries. To identify whether an item is self published, search for the title on Amazon, scroll down to the Product Details area and check out the publisher. Common self-publishing companies are AuthorHouse, Cafe Press, Create Space, Lulu, Smashwords, Vantage Press, Wattpad and Xlibris. Further examples of self-publishing companies can be found here and here. Please inform your patron that you will do your absolute best to locate these items, but that they may not be available to borrow through interlibrary loan.
Interlibrary Loan Guidelines, Policies & Procedures
"Sections 5.3 and 6.2 of the Pennsylvania Interlibrary Loan Guidelines encourage libraries to create both an ILL borrowing and an ILL lending policy. Such policies help clarify to users what they can expect from interlibrary loan service and define for other libraries what level of ILL services are offered." -From the Pennsylvania Interlibrary Loan Procedures Manual
